Assoc. Prof. Dr. Algirdas Monkevičius graduated from Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute in 1979. He started a professional career as Mathematics and Physics Teacher at Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute. Algirdas Monkevičius obtained Ph.D. in Social Sciences from Moscow Social Sciences Academy in 1991. Until 2000 he held a position of Dean and Rector’s Advisor at Šiauliai University. Since 2009 he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Policy at Mykolas Romeris University, and the Dean of Faculty of Politics and Management. Algirdas Monkevičius served as Rector of Mykolas Romeris University from 2014 to 2019. In January of 2019 he was appointed as Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania for the 4th time.
Algirdas Monkevičius has a broad and diverse experience in the implementation of educational and research reforms and played a key role in the drafting and adoption of new Law on Higher Education and Research of the Republic of Lithuania. Having served as Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania from 2000 to 2004 and in 2008 he has brought an enormous wealth of experience to that position. From 2004 to 2008 he was a Member of Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania.
Algirdas Monkevičius research interests are Education Policy, and Quality of Life economy. He is a member of World Economics Association, EU Quality of Life research Association, International Sociology Association, an expert and participant of Lifelong Learning Programme research activities.
